George Bellis Dog Park sits on a flat stretch of land in central Buena Park, with two separate enclosures that split dogs by size—one for dogs under 25 pounds, one for larger dogs. The park is straightforward and functional rather than scenic; you’re looking at open grass fields with sturdy fencing, a few picnic tables, and concrete pathways that make it easy to navigate even on hot days. The main draw here is space to run without worrying about traffic or leashes, plus a good mix of dogs passing through on weekday mornings and weekend afternoons.
Dogs are off-leash only within the fenced areas; all approaches to the park require leashes. There’s no entrance fee and no time limits, though the park closes at dusk. Water bowls are available near the entrance, though bringing your own is smart during summer months when the park gets crowded and bowls don’t stay filled long. Shade comes from a few trees along the perimeter, but the interior is mostly open—the Orange County sun hits hard here in afternoon hours, so early morning or late afternoon visits are more comfortable for dogs that overheat easily.
The park sits near the intersection of Eighth Street and Knott Avenue in a mostly residential area, about three miles south of Knott’s Berry Farm and roughly a mile west of the Santa Ana River. You’ll find street parking along Eighth Street; the lot fills quickly on weekend mornings and early evenings. Weekday visits before 10 a.m. tend to be quieter, and you’ll see a steadier crowd from 4 p.m. onward when people are done with work. The terrain is grass and packed earth with no trails—this is a contained dog park rather than a hiking destination. The flat, open layout makes it suitable for dogs of any age or ability level, though senior dogs and puppies sometimes do better during the calmer morning hours when space feels less frenetic.
