Located at the base of the chaparral-covered hills of the Cajon Pass with scenic views of both the San Gabriel and San Bernardino Mountains, Glen Helen Regional Park spreads across 1,340 acres and gives you plenty of reasons to spend a full day here with your dog. The landscape alone—those desert hillsides meeting mountain peaks in the distance—makes the drive worthwhile, but there’s a lot more going on than just scenery.
The park has two lakes for fishing, a swim complex with a pool and dual water slides, a splash pad, and large group shelter picnic areas scattered throughout. Multiple picnic spots sit under shade trees with views across the park, which matters when you’re spending hours here. There are open spaces for field games and playground equipment if you’re bringing kids along. The trail system here ranges from easy footpaths to more challenging routes through the terrain, so you can pick something that matches your dog’s fitness level and your own energy that day. The landscapes along the way are genuinely beautiful—the kind of open desert and foothill scenery that makes you understand why people love this area.
Glen Helen also hosts the 65,000-seat Glen Helen Amphitheater for concerts, plus the Glen Helen Raceway for off-highway events and the annual Sheriff’s Rodeo, so depending on when you visit, there might be activities happening.
If you want to stay overnight, the park offers primitive camping with limited amenities. The campground sits across the street and down from the main entrance. It’s dog-friendly, fenced, and gated—you’ll need a security code to get in. Dogs must stay leashed, and you’ll need to clean up after yours. It’s a straightforward desert camping setup, which appeals to people who want something simple without all the RV hookup infrastructure. Check the park website for current hours and admission fees before you head out.
