Holiday Inn Express & Suites in American Canyon sits right off Highway 29, which means you’re basically positioned between the valley action and a quieter spot to sleep—handy if you’re planning to spend days wine tasting and need a straightforward place to land at night. The location works well for dogs since you’re not fighting through downtown traffic to get anywhere.
The hotel welcomes dogs, which was our main requirement. Rooms are standard Holiday Inn fare—clean, functional, with what you need but nothing fancy. They’ve got a patio area where you can sit outside, which gives you at least some space to decompress with your dog after a day of exploring. American Canyon itself is fairly low-key compared to Napa proper, so the pace feels more relaxed.
What made our stay practical: the highway access means you can get to wineries, Oxbow Market in Napa, or other valley spots without a ton of backtracking. We appreciated that the hotel didn’t make a big fuss about having our dog with us—just treated it like a normal part of the stay. The rooms aren’t going to blow you away, but they’re comfortable enough for sleeping and changing clothes between activities.
If you’re traveling through Wine Country with a dog and want a base that won’t eat up your budget or require a long drive to get somewhere interesting, this works. It’s not a destination hotel where you’d want to spend your whole trip lounging around; it’s more the “we have a safe place to come back to” kind of place. The trade-off is you’re not right in the heart of things, but plenty of people find that tradeoff worth it for the straightforward access and simpler vibe.
