Laguna Woods Dog Park

23190 Ridge Route Dr, Laguna Woods, California

The off-leash area at Laguna Woods Dog Park splits into two sections—one for smaller dogs and one for larger ones—separated by a sturdy fence that keeps the groups genuinely contained. The larger dog side has real topography, with the terrain sloping enough that you’ll notice it in your calves after twenty minutes of chasing your dog up and down the packed dirt. A few mature oak trees provide actual shade rather than the kind that disappears by 10 a.m., and there’s a small water station, though bringing your own bottle is smart since the fountain doesn’t always run cold on warm days.

Dogs stay off-leash in both enclosures, but the entire park requires leashes outside the fenced areas—important to know because the walkways connecting the parking lot to the dog park run through landscaped sections where leash laws are enforced. The park has no admission fee. Weight limits aren’t enforced at the gate, but the small dog section tends to feel most comfortable for anything under 25 pounds or so, while the large side accommodates dogs that genuinely need to run.

The park sits in the Laguna Woods community in south Orange County, accessible via Ridge Route Drive off Alicia Parkway. The grounds cover about three acres total, with the dog park taking up roughly one acre. You’ll find the park less crowded on weekday mornings and around 4 to 5 p.m. on weekdays—weekends, especially Saturday mid-morning, draw a steady crowd. The terrain is mostly dirt with minimal grass, so muddy conditions after rain can last a day or two. Shade is decent but limited, so bring water and plan for earlier or later hours during summer months. The park closes at dusk.
