Letterman Park’s dog park sits in a developed neighborhood corner with mature trees that actually cast shade—a real asset in the Clovis heat. The fenced area sprawls across several acres of open grass, giving dogs room to move without feeling crowded, even when the park fills up on weekend mornings. Unlike some Central Valley dog parks that bake in the sun, this one has enough oak coverage that you can stand without squinting.
Dogs of all sizes use the main field, though there’s a separate enclosure for smaller dogs and shy animals who need calmer company. Both areas have water stations scattered throughout, which matters when afternoon temperatures climb into the 90s and beyond. The grass surface is well-maintained and drains reasonably well after rain. The park operates from sunrise to sunset, with the busiest activity happening Saturday and Sunday mornings between 9 and 11 a.m.—come then if you want your dog around others, or time your visit for a weekday morning if you prefer quieter conditions.
Villa Avenue runs directly past the park, making it easy to spot, and the surrounding neighborhood has street parking along the perimeter. Benches and picnic tables give you places to sit while your dog plays, though you’ll want to bring water for yourself if you’re there during peak heat hours. The park doesn’t have restrooms on-site, so that’s worth knowing if you’re planning a longer session. In summer, arriving early—as in 7 or 8 a.m.—keeps both you and your dog much more comfortable than midday visits.
