Low Gap Dog Park sits right outside Low Gap Park in Ukiah, giving you plenty of room to let your dog run hard and actually tire out. The fencing is solid, and there’s enough space that even on busier days it doesn’t feel cramped. Water stations are scattered around, which matters in Mendocino County’s heat, and the waste stations keep things sanitary.
What I liked most was how the layout works for different energy levels. If your dog needs to burn off steam, there’s plenty of open ground for sprinting and chasing. If you’ve got a more cautious dog, there are spots that feel less overwhelming. The park draws a decent mix of dogs, so you’ll usually find someone to socialize with, though it’s worth going at different times to see what the crowd is like.
After your dog’s done with the off-leash area, Low Gap Park itself is right there for a quieter on-leash walk if everyone needs to cool down. The surrounding area is actually pleasant for this—you’re not stuck in a concrete lot. Picnic tables in the adjacent park area mean you can sit and decompress while your dog does the same, which is helpful if you’ve got kids or just want to spend more time outside.
The park maintains things reasonably well, though like most public dog parks, conditions can vary depending on foot traffic and recent weather. Check the official Facebook page before you go to see if there are any closures or updates, and to get a sense of what times tend to be quieter or more social depending on what your dog prefers. It’s worth visiting a few times at different hours to figure out what works best for your dog’s temperament.
