Petaluma‘s level-headed approach to canine recreation adds greatly to the enjoyment of DogTrekkers. In addition to fenced dog parks like Rocky Memorial Park, which sprawls across nine acres, the city allows licensed dogs under voice control to romp off-leash at designated hours in a dozen “dog run” areas scattered throughout local parks.
Lucchesi Park is a 29.83-acre community space that gives you plenty of reasons to spend a full afternoon here. The dog run area is the main draw for visiting with your dog—it’s one of those well-maintained spots where you can let them play freely during the designated off-leash hours. The park also has drinking fountains, which is helpful when you’re out with your dog in the Petaluma heat, plus shaded picnic areas where you can settle in while your dog burns off energy nearby.
Beyond the dog amenities, Lucchesi Park functions as a genuine community hub. There are lighted multi-use fields with synthetic turf, a 9-hole frisbee golf course if you want to do something active, and well-maintained walking and bicycle paths that wind through the property. If you’re there with kids too, the playground has both a tot area and a school-age section. The park offers both first-come, first-serve picnic spots with BBQ stands and reservable areas that can accommodate groups of 200 to 500 people if you’re planning something bigger.
Everything here is ADA accessible, and you’ll find restrooms throughout the park. The lighted tennis courts and Little League fields stay busy, especially during baseball season, so the park has a real community-focused energy to it.
Bring your own pick-up bags—standard practice—and make sure your dog is licensed and wearing a tag before heading to the dog run area. The designated off-leash hours keep things organized, so it’s worth checking those times before you visit.
