Maxwell Dog Park

2660 W Broadway, Anaheim, California

Maxwell Dog Park sits on the edge of Anaheim’s residential neighborhoods with a surprising amount of tree cover for Orange County—large eucalyptus and oak shade most of the park, which makes afternoon visits genuinely comfortable even in summer. The grass is well-maintained and the ground stays relatively level throughout, so you won’t deal with the packed dirt and dust you find at some county parks. Walking the perimeter takes about 15 minutes at a casual pace.

Dogs run leash-free in the designated off-leash area, which is the entire main field. The park requires proof of current rabies vaccination and a dog license, though enforcement varies by time of day. Small dogs have their own separate section if your dog prefers calmer company. Water stations are scattered across the grounds—there’s a dog water fountain near the entrance and additional hydration spots toward the back, which matters in Anaheim’s heat. You’ll find picnic tables throughout if you want to sit while your dog plays, and the parking lot is immediately adjacent with easy access.

The park sits just off Broadway in a neighborhood with minimal foot traffic, so it’s quietest weekday mornings and early evenings. Weekends pack noticeably by 10 a.m., particularly on Saturdays. There are no formal trails here—it’s a traditional open dog park rather than a hiking destination—but the flat terrain and good drainage mean you can visit year-round without mud problems. Summer afternoons (May through September) see reduced crowds since most people avoid the heat, though that’s when the shade cover really earns its value. The park closes at sunset, which shifts significantly between seasons, so plan accordingly in winter when dusk arrives by 5 p.m.
