This venerable establishment in the rapidly gentrifying Mission Bay district was taken over in 2012 by Peter Osborne, the name behind MoMo’s, Pete’s Tavern and Pedro’s Cantina, all in the shadow of nearby AT&T Park. Seafood is the focus here, and dishes are as beautiful to look at as they are delicious to eat.
Dogs are welcome on the rooftop deck, which is set about with umbrella-shaded tables and enjoys scenic views of the bay, a sailboat marina and the hulking shapes of ships in drydock. That outdoor space is where you’ll want to spend your time with your dog anyway — you get unobstructed water views and enough breeze to keep things comfortable even on warmer days. The covered tables mean you’re not completely exposed to the sun, which makes a real difference when you’re sitting with a dog who needs to stay cool.
The menu leans heavily on seafood, with preparations that manage to be both refined and genuinely crab well-executed. You won’t find the kind of overwrought plating that looks impressive but falls apart when you actually try to eat it. Instead, the focus is on letting quality ingredients speak for themselves.
Happy hour runs from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, featuring 99-cent oysters and $5 draft beer — genuinely good prices if you’re looking to linger without dropping a lot of money. Sunday brunch is another solid option, though you’ll want to arrive early or be prepared to wait during peak times.
The location works well if you’re planning a longer outing in Mission Bay. The embarcadero is walkable from here, and there are decent stretches of pavement if your dog needs to shake off some energy before settling in for lunch. You’re close enough to the water that you can watch boats without being right on top of the tourist crowds that gather at some of the other waterfront spots.
