NORCAL Golden Retriever Rescue, a non-profit, all-volunteer organization based in Menlo Park, serves the San Mateo County and San Francisco Bay Area regions. Their primary mission is to rescue and find loving homes for adoptable Golden Retrievers, including golden mixes and bonded pairs. With a commitment to improving the lives of both the dogs and their adoptive families, NORCAL Golden Retriever Rescue provides a safe haven for these dogs.
Founded in 1994, NGRR has spent more than three decades devoted to the well-being of Golden Retrievers across Northern California. Their chartered service area spans from San Luis Obispo County all the way north to the California-Oregon border, and also includes Western Nevada communities such as Reno, Sparks, and Incline Village. This broad reach means that Goldens in need across a vast region have a lifeline through the dedicated volunteers who make up the organization.
NGRR is always looking for people with a soft spot for Golden Retrievers who can help in many different roles. Those with some extra time are invited to join the mission to place adoptable Goldens in loving new homes. NGRR does not have a central facility; instead, volunteers work out of their homes and communicate by phone, email, and the website. Volunteer positions fall into three broad categories: fostering, hands-on operation, and support, all of which are defined below and in the applications.
Fostering is an especially vital role at NGRR. Foster families care for surrendered or rescued Golden Retrievers as part of their household, providing veterinary care, training, exercise, and the love these dogs need as they prepare for their forever homes. All dog-related expenses for foster dogs are covered by NGRR, so foster families can focus on giving each Golden the best possible care without worrying about costs. It is a deeply rewarding experience for dog lovers who want to make a direct difference in a Golden’s life.
The adoption process at NGRR is thorough and designed to create successful, lasting matches between dogs and families. Prospective adopters complete an online application, after which a local Area Coordinator will reach out to schedule a phone interview and home visit. Once approved, families are matched with a Golden that fits their lifestyle and home environment. Adoption donations range from $400 to $650 depending on the dog’s age, and these funds go directly toward supporting the rescue’s ongoing mission.
They prioritize the well-being and happiness of their dogs, ensuring that each one receives the care and attention they deserve. NORCAL Golden Retriever Rescue welcomes visitors to explore their website at ngrr.org for more information or reach out via phone at (650) 665-0964 or email at info@ngrr.org. By choosing to adopt from or support this organization, you are enriching your life with a loyal companion and contributing to the well-being of the local dog community.
