Oakzanita Springs RV Campground sits in Descanso, about 45 minutes inland from San Diego, and it’s one of those places where you can actually keep yourself and your dog entertained for days without getting bored. The campground has courts for basketball, pickleball, and volleyball, plus horseshoes and a mini-golf course if you want something lower-key. There’s also an RC track for people into that hobby, a family center, a pool, spa, and a separate wading pool.
We found the on-site country store genuinely convenient—you can grab basics without having to drive into town. Wi-Fi is available throughout if you need to catch up on work between activities. The layout feels spacious, which matters when you’re parking an RV and want some breathing room.
Dogs get the run of the place here. We walked around the campground in the early mornings and late afternoons, and the staff seemed genuinely unbothered about having dogs around. The surrounding area has some quiet country roads and open space if your dog needs to stretch beyond the campground itself, though it’s not like you’re right on a major trail system—you’re in a fairly developed RV park area.
Getting there from San Diego is straightforward: take I-5 South to Highway 805 South, then I-8 East to Highway 79 North, and you’ll drive about 3 more miles to find the entrance. It’s not a quick trip from the coast, but the drive is pretty standard freeway stuff.
The main draw here is really the activity options. If you’ve got kids or family members who need to stay occupied alongside your dog, this place delivers. If you’re looking for a quiet, nature-focused camping experience, you might want to check elsewhere.
