Pleasure Cove Marina

6100 Highway 128, Napa, California 94558

(800) 255-5561

Pleasure Cove Marina sits on the south end of Lake Berryessa, one of California’s largest freshwater lakes, just off Highway 128 east of the Napa Valley. The lake stretches across 165 miles of shoreline between Blue Ridge and Cedar Roughs, drawing over 1.5 million visitors annually who come for boating, fishing, and water sports. Summer water temperatures climb to around 75 degrees, which makes sense why the lake stays busy from June through September.

The marina itself operates as a full-service facility, with houseboat rentals being the main draw. If you’re bringing your dog, a multi-day houseboat trip works surprisingly well — your dog gets to be with you the whole time, there’s plenty of deck space for them to stretch out and watch the water, and many renters find that dogs actually settle down nicely once you’re underway. The lake has both warm and cold-water fish species, so anglers come year-round, though fishing picks up when the weather cools.

Beyond the marina’s immediate services, Lake Berryessa itself gives you options. There are multiple developed areas around the lake with beach access and day-use zones where you can bring your dog along the shoreline. The surrounding terrain tends to be grassland and scrub oak, so the landscape feels pretty open. If your dog isn’t particularly interested in water, the walking opportunities around the perimeter roads and nearby foothills provide decent exercise options.

The location on Highway 128 makes it accessible from Napa, though it’s about a 45-minute drive from downtown. The drive itself takes you through pleasant wine country terrain before you drop down toward the lake. Bring sunscreen and water for yourself — the lake area has limited shade and can get quite hot in summer, and there aren’t many services immediately nearby, so stock up before you arrive.
