Poinsettia Dog Park sprawls across several well-maintained acres in a residential area of Carlsbad on Hidden Valley Road, just north of Carlsbad Village. The open layout gives dogs real room to move, with short grass worn from regular use and a gentle slope that doesn’t feel cramped even during moderately busy times. Mature trees ring the perimeter and cast genuine shade—valuable during San Diego’s sunnier months. The park is fully fenced and divided into two sections: a larger area for dogs over 25 pounds and a separate small-dog enclosure. Both sides have water stations, though you may want to bring a collapsible bowl if your dog won’t drink from ground-level troughs. The gates include a small vestibule, helpful if your dog tends to bolt.

Parking sits in a small lot directly adjacent to the park—not large, so weekend mornings can mean circling for a spot. The terrain is mostly grass with some decomposed granite near the entrance, and drainage is reasonable after rain, though heavy storms leave muddy patches on the lower end. The park is open dawn to dusk, with mornings before 9 a.m. and weekday afternoons typically quieter if you prefer fewer dogs around.

Dogs enter at no charge. The park is dog-only in terms of amenities, so bring a full water bottle for yourself; there’s shade but no benches. Nearby you’ll find the Poinsettia Park Recreation Center and easy access to local trails if you want to extend your outing beyond the park itself.
