The Quality Inn in Ukiah sits just off Highway 101, making it a convenient base if you’re exploring Lake Mendocino and Mendocino County’s wine country. We found the location practical—you’re close enough to downtown Ukiah to grab lunch or dinner without much driving, but far enough out that it feels quieter than being right on the highway.
The rooms are straightforward and clean, nothing fancy but comfortable enough after a day of hiking or visiting wineries. Your dog is welcome, which is the main thing that matters. We appreciated the complimentary breakfast—nothing gourmet, but it takes the thinking out of the morning before heading out to explore. There’s free Wi-Fi if you need to look up trail conditions or make dinner reservations, and a seasonal outdoor pool if you’re visiting during warmer months.
The real advantage here is how well positioned it is for getting out into the area. Lake Mendocino is right there with trails and day-use areas where dogs can come along. If you’re doing the wine tasting route around Ukiah, you’ve got a place to return to that won’t fight you on having a dog in the room. The staff seemed used to traveling dogs and didn’t make a big deal about it either way.
It’s the kind of place where you’re not paying for the experience of the hotel itself—you’re paying for a solid, no-frills room in a location that actually works for getting around the county. If you want walkability or special amenities, this isn’t it. But if you want a dog-friendly place to sleep while you’re out enjoying what Mendocino County has to offer, it does the job without unnecessary costs. The seasonal pool is a decent bonus if you’re timing a summer visit around it.
