Quarry Park in El Granada is tucked into the hills of the San Mateo County coastside, offering dog owners an excellent outdoor experience on the San Francisco Peninsula. Spanning 517 acres just four miles north of downtown Half Moon Bay, this park features a mix of trails, open meadows, eucalyptus groves, and scenic viewpoints that will keep both you and your dog happily exploring for hours. Dogs are allowed off leash on many of the park’s trails, making it a great destination for dogs who love to roam and sniff freely.

The trail network at Quarry Park has something for every fitness level. Hikers will find plenty of elevation to get their heart rate up, while more relaxed loops offer easy walking through coastal scenery. As you make your way along the paths, you will pass through open meadows before entering a eucalyptus forest that provides welcome shade on sunny days. Mountain bikers also enjoy the single-track trails here, so keep an eye out for cyclists on shared paths. Along the way, you may discover a pond and a quarry floor labyrinth that adds a unique touch to the landscape.

The park also includes a community garden, a children’s playground, picnic tables, and barbecue areas, making it a great spot for a full day out with the family and your dog. Dog waste stations are conveniently placed throughout the grounds. Dogs are not allowed in the fenced playground area or the pump track area. The adjacent Wicklow property and the grassy fields near the playground are also dog-friendly zones with their own dog waste station in the parking lot.

Quarry Park connects to the broader San Mateo County trail system, including a trail from neighboring Mirada Surf East that leads directly into the park, so you can extend your adventure along the California Coastal Trail. To get to Quarry Park, take Highway 1 to El Granada, exit at Coronado Street, and follow the signs to the entrance at the corner of Santa Maria Avenue and Columbus Street. The park opens daily at 8 a.m. and typically closes around dusk. For more information, call (650) 355-8289.
