Raymond G. is a straightforward neighborhood dog park with two distinct sections—one for dogs under 25 pounds and another for larger dogs—so you’re not fighting through a crowd of Great Danes if you’ve got a small terrier. The smaller-dog area works well for anxious or elderly dogs who need a calmer environment. Both sections are fenced, which means you can actually relax while your dog socializes instead of gripping a leash the whole time.
The park runs on grass and decomposed granite, which drains reasonably well even after rain, though the grass can get thin in high-traffic spots during peak afternoon hours. Water bowls are available, but bring your own water on warm days—the on-site source isn’t always reliable. Shade is limited to a few trees along the perimeter, so morning visits or late afternoon visits are more comfortable in summer. The park is open dawn to dusk, and you’ll notice the crowd thins significantly after 6 p.m. on weekdays.
The location sits in a residential part of Santa Clara, off Reed Street near the intersection with Benton Street, close enough to downtown that it draws both neighborhood regulars and people cutting through on their way elsewhere. The park occupies a modest footprint—maybe three-quarters of an acre total—so it fills up quickly on weekend mornings. Parking is street-side only, and spots can be tight during peak times. If you’re coming for a serious play session, aim for a weekday afternoon or early morning, when your dog will actually have room to run.
