Red Hill Dog Park

Red Hill Dog Park

100 Shaw Dr., San Anselmo, California 94960

(415) 258-4600

Red Hill Dog Park has been a volunteer-run operation since it opened in May 2009, which means the place genuinely reflects what the San Anselmo community wants. That grassroots energy shows everywhere—the whole park exists because locals decided their dogs deserved a real space to play and their neighbors deserved a gathering spot.

The park spreads across one acre with a solid perimeter fence and double gates at the entrance, so you’re not juggling dogs while managing loose gates. Inside, you’ll find benches and picnic tables where you can actually sit and watch rather than hover anxiously. There’s a water fountain for you and separate stations for dogs to drink, plus shade structures and natural tree coverage if the Bay Area sun gets intense.

What really sets this place apart is the rinse station. After a romp in dusty terrain, you can actually wash off your dog before heading home—a feature a lot of smaller parks skip. The supply of tennis balls never seems to empty, which tells you something about the community investment.

The park runs a Small Dog Hour every day from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m., which is genuinely useful if you have a smaller dog who gets overwhelmed or if you want predictable, calmer play sessions. This started because volunteers listened to what families actually needed.

Improvement happens continually here, not because some company is managing it for profit, but because people living in San Anselmo actually care about the space. When you visit, you’re supporting a community-first model where your dog’s experience matters because the volunteers’ dogs play there too. The park sits in a residential area that’s pleasant for a walk on approach, and the whole setup encourages people to stick around and get to know their neighbors—which honestly seems to be the whole point.
