Rock Creek Lakes Resort Grill sits in a spectacular spot near Bishop, with views of the Eastern Sierra peaks and the clear waters of Rock Creek. Dogs can’t join you inside the dining room, but the resort has plenty of picnic tables scattered across the grounds where you can eat with your dog nearby.
The Grill serves breakfast and lunch daily, with options that actually fuel you for a full day in the mountains. Their pancakes come from the Resort’s own recipe, and they use bread from the local Great Basin Bakery for their French toast. The menu covers the usual suspects—eggs, sandwiches, burgers—nothing fancy, but solid mountain fare. On Friday and Saturday evenings during midsummer, they run happy hour with discounted drinks.
The outdoor seating is genuinely spacious, which makes a real difference when you’re eating with a dog. You get fresh mountain air, actual room to spread out, and views while you eat. The staff treats dogs as normal rather than like you’re sneaking something past them. This matters more than you’d think after spending a morning on a trail.
The location itself is worth the drive if you’re exploring the Rock Creek drainage. You’re close enough to walk over to the creek, and the surrounding terrain is excellent for hiking. If you’re planning a day of fishing or trail time in the area, eating here before or after makes sense—you don’t have to drive back down to Bishop proper. The elevation is high enough that the air is noticeably different from lower-altitude California, and the quality of light in late afternoon is genuinely striking.
The place gets busy on weekends, especially during summer, so arriving early for lunch or breakfast gives you a better chance at a good table and quicker service. If you’re flexible with timing, a weekday visit means fewer crowds and easier access to the outdoor seating areas where you’ll actually want to sit with your dog.
