Rohr Dog Park

Rohr Dog Park

3605 Bonita Verde Drive, Bonita, California 91902

Rohr Dog Park spreads across a hillside in Bonita with the kind of open, rolling layout that lets dogs move at a real gallop instead of circling in tight quarters. The landscape feels less manicured than many San Diego parks—you get actual elevation changes, patches of mature shade trees, and sight lines long enough that you can actually see what your dog is doing across the property. It’s the kind of place where a dog with energy to burn can really burn it.

The park divides into separate sections for large and small dogs, so owners of smaller breeds don’t have to watch their dog get knocked around by seventy-pounders. Both areas are fully fenced. The ground is mostly decomposed granite with some grass patches, which drains reasonably well after rain but gets dusty in summer—bring water and expect your dog to exit looking like they’ve been dry-cleaning challenged. There’s a water station in the park, though on hot days you’ll see people refilling from personal bottles more often than not.

Rohr sits on Bonita Verde Drive in the southern reaches of San Diego County, a quieter neighborhood park that doesn’t draw the same crowds as bigger urban facilities. Daytime hours run dawn to dusk, so early morning or late afternoon visits tend to feel less chaotic than midday. The park has actual shade from established trees rather than just a few wooden structures, which matters in summer when the inland heat climbs. Parking is on-site and straightforward. The terrain itself is uneven enough that it’s genuinely good exercise for dogs, though that same unevenness means muddy spots linger longer after rain. Bring a towel and plan on a cleanup at home.
