Sandy Cove RV Park in Desert Hot Springs offers a comfortable base camp for RV travelers exploring the desert with their dogs. The park provides full hookups, a pool and spa, a clubhouse, showers, and a laundry room — the essentials for an extended stay without sacrificing comfort. Dogs are welcome on the property, which is a relief for RV travelers who know that not every park rolls out the mat for pets.

One of Sandy Cove’s biggest draws is its proximity to Joshua Tree National Park, roughly 30 minutes to the north. While dogs are restricted to paved roads and developed campgrounds inside the park, the drive through the park is stunning, and there are BLM (Bureau of Land Management) lands nearby where dogs have more freedom to explore on leash. The contrast between the park’s manicured RV sites and the raw desert landscape just beyond makes for a nice rhythm to your days here.

Back at Sandy Cove, the open layout of the RV sites gives dogs room to stretch out, and the surrounding neighborhood is quiet enough for pleasant morning and evening walks. You’ll find the pace here refreshingly mellow compared to the hustle of nearby Palm Springs. Desert Hot Springs itself is a low-key alternative to busier resort towns in the area. The town is known for its natural hot springs, and several nearby spas and resorts offer day passes if you want to experience the mineral waters while someone else watches the dog, or you could arrange pet-sitting for an afternoon.

For supplies, pet stores and veterinary clinics are available in neighboring Palm Springs and Palm Desert if you need them. The weather is ideal for camping from October through April — summer temperatures soar well above 100 degrees, so plan accordingly and always keep fresh water available for your dog. Even in winter months, the desert sun can be intense midday.
