There’s a lovely but little-known walkway that runs along the eastern and southern shore of the Strawberry peninsula in Mill Valley, offering one of the quieter waterfront walks in the area. The path is in beautiful condition with spacious green lawns at either end plus one in the middle, and a wide, level paved walkway that hugs the water the entire way. It’s about two-thirds of a mile in length, making it manageable for dogs of different fitness levels without feeling rushed.
The scenery shifts as you walk—you’ll get views across the water, tree coverage in sections, and open lawn areas where you can stop and let your dog take a breather. The path is genuinely popular with dog walkers, so you’ll see plenty of others out there, though it never feels crowded the way some of the more famous Marin trails do.
Parking is straightforward. Most people use the cul-de-sacs at either end, but there’s also street parking along the middle section, which gives you a third access point if the ends are full. This flexibility is helpful on weekends. The parks at both ends have doggie bag dispensers, which makes cleanup simple—definitely use them since the signage does require dogs to be on leash at all times throughout the walk.
The reality is that enforcement is minimal and many dogs you’ll encounter aren’t leashed, so know what you’re comfortable with. If your dog does better with a leash, you won’t feel like an outlier. The whole setup makes this a practical choice for a casual outing without the drive-time commitment of heading further into the Marin hills. It’s the kind of place where you can genuinely relax instead of worrying about parking or crowds.
