SUP Pups offers paddleboard lessons and tours where you and your dog paddle together across San Diego Bay. You’ll start at the North end of the Liberty Station waterfront, right near the Courtyard Marriott, where the lessons are hosted by The SUP Connection.
The experience begins with your dog meeting the other dogs in the group—a chance for them to sniff each other out and burn off some nervous energy before getting on the water. Once everyone’s comfortable and loose, you’ll head down to the sandy beach to launch. From there, you paddle out into the bay, learning proper technique while your dog gets used to the movement and feel of the board beneath their paws.
If you’re coming from Rosecrans Boulevard, turn east on Farragut Road and drive it to the end—you’ll find a cul-de-sac with plenty of parking at the beginning of NTC Park. The whole setup is pretty convenient, with easy water access and enough space that you don’t feel cramped before you push off.
One thing worth knowing: not every dog takes to paddleboarding immediately. If your dog is nervous around water or has never been on a board, these lessons give you the structure and guidance to work through that gradually. The instructors understand that some dogs need time to adjust, and the group setting means your dog gets to see how other, more confident dogs handle it. By the end of a lesson, many dogs that were hesitant at the start are actually having fun out on the water. It’s the kind of activity that opens up a whole different side of San Diego for you and your dog once they get comfortable with it.
