Originally opened in 1990, The Brickery was the birthplace of all Café Beaujolais’ housemade bready creations, including Country Sourdough, Cherry Walnut, Brioche, and Austrian Seed. In 2017, the restaurant introduced thin-crust Neapolitan-inspired wood-fired pizza to Mendocino, and it ended up being quite the hit with both locals and tourists. The pizza menu shifts with the seasons, sourcing as much as possible from local farms rather than relying on a static lineup.
Walking into the garden space, you’ll find tables and chairs scattered throughout a lush setting where you can settle in with a slice and a craft beer. The atmosphere feels genuinely relaxed—the kind of place where you’re not rushed through your meal. Your dog can hang out with you while you eat, which makes the whole experience much easier than hunting for a place that actually welcomes dogs at their outdoor tables.
The menu extends beyond pizza. You can order smash burgers on Wednesdays and Thursdays if you want something different, and soups and salads are available any day you visit. Those housemade breads from Café Beaujolais’ original operation are still a draw—knowing the wood-fired oven is doing the work means everything comes out with real character.
The Brickery is open for lunch Wednesday through Sunday. On a nice Mendocino afternoon, it’s one of the better spots to spend a couple of hours without worrying about keeping your dog entertained in a cramped indoor space. The garden layout means there’s actually room to move around, and the casual vibe means nobody minds if your dog shifts position a few times during lunch. Come during a less crowded weekday lunch if you prefer a quieter experience than weekend afternoons tend to bring.
