Trail of 100 Giants

County Route 107, Springville, California

(559) 784-1500

Feeling tiny among giants. Walking the Trail of 100 Giants is one of those hikes where you actually understand what people mean when they talk about perspective. You’re moving through Long Meadow Grove, one of the best-preserved giant sequoia groves around, surrounded by trees estimated to be up to 1,500 years old. It’s the kind of place where your dog will trot along beside you, completely unbothered by the massive trunks towering overhead.

The trail itself is about 1.3 miles of paved path winding through the grove with several loop options, so you can adjust based on how your dog is doing or how long you want to spend. The paved surface is genuinely dog-friendly—no scrambling over rocks or navigating muddy patches. Interpretive signs along the way explain what you’re looking at, which helps you appreciate just how old these trees really are. At 6,400 feet elevation, it’s a mild climb that takes around 30 minutes, making it accessible even for dogs that aren’t hardcore hikers.

Keep your dog on a leash throughout. The paved parking area has restrooms and a picnic area, and Redwood Meadow Campground is right across Western Divide Highway if you want to make a longer trip of it. The location is about 45 miles northwest of Kernville and 41 miles southeast of Springville, roughly 15 miles northeast of California Hot Springs.

One important note: the road to the trailhead closes seasonally. Summer is when you can reliably access it, though Tulare County handles the closures depending on conditions, so it’s worth confirming before you drive out if you’re going in late spring or early fall. The drive to get here is part of the experience—you’re heading into some genuinely remote Sierra terrain, which means fewer crowds and a real sense of getting away.
