All dogs must be kept on a 6 ft. leash at all times within Ulistac Natural Area. Before you go, know that foxtail grass grows here, which can irritate dogs’ eyes, ears, and paws, so check your dog over carefully after your visit.
Ulistac sits in North Santa Clara, just a mile from Levi’s Stadium, making it convenient if you’re in the area for other reasons. You can get there by car, bike, or on foot, and the VTA light rail also serves the area. The two main entrances are at opposite ends of the property—one on the north side near Tasman and another on the south side near Hope Drive—so you can pick whichever is most convenient.
The trails here are straightforward and dog-friendly. There’s almost a mile of flat, crushed granite pathways that are easy on the paws and won’t kick up much dust. The terrain makes this a good choice if your dog isn’t into steep climbs or technical footing. If you want something longer, you can connect to the Guadalupe River trail for an extended walk. The park has a nice balance of open sunny sections and shaded areas, so you’re not stuck in full sun the whole time. The people who manage the space have thoughtfully placed large cut logs along the trails at regular intervals—handy spots to sit and let your dog catch a breath, or just to pause and take in your surroundings.
It’s the kind of park that works well for a casual weekday walk with your dog, especially if you’re looking for something accessible without a lot of fuss. Just be prepared to do a thorough check of your dog’s paws, ears, and face for foxtails before heading home.
