Veteran’s Memorial Park

About 1 mile away from historic downtown Monterey, Monterey, California

Veteran's Memorial Park is a popular and beautiful 50-acre park in the forested hills of Monterey, just a mile from Downtown Monterey. It’s one of the more affordable ways to spend a night on the Monterey Peninsula, and it works well for dogs who enjoy hiking and open space.

The park has 40 campsites scattered through towering Monterey Pine forest, with 30 of them able to accommodate trailers. Each site comes with a table and barbecue pit, and you’ll find water faucets, restrooms, and showers throughout the camping area. The maximum stay is three consecutive days, and each site can hold up to two vehicles and eight people.

What makes it dog-friendly is the variety of ways to spend time here. There are hiking trails winding through the forest where you can explore with your dog on a leash, and bikers on non-motorized bikes are welcome too. Beyond the trails, you’ll find a turf and lawn playfield, BBQ picnic areas, basketball court, and play equipment if you’re camping with kids as well.

The park does have some practical limits to know about. Vehicles can’t exceed 21 feet in length, so if you’re bringing an RV, check those dimensions beforehand. The capacity limit is two vehicles and eight people per campsite, so plan accordingly if you’re bringing other families or friends.

The combination of forest trails, bay views, and proximity to downtown Monterey makes this a solid base for exploring the area without paying resort prices. Your dog gets to sleep under the pines and wake up ready for a morning walk through the forest before you head into town for the day.
