Redding’s dog-friendly accommodations offer easy access to one of the most extensive trail networks in California. You’ll find more than 225 miles of trails within 15 minutes of town, including routes well-suited to winter hiking. For example, the Sheraton Redding Hotel at the Sundial Bridge is steps from the 17-mile Sacramento River National Recreation Trail, which crosses the iconic Sundial Bridge. Many other Redding hotels and motels provide perfect starting points for your hiking adventures, too.

The Sheraton Redding rolls out the red carpet for furry family members, providing welcome treats, water bowls, bedding and other amenities upon check-in. Mosaic, the property’s restaurant, serves wood-fired pizzas and entrees plus special dog dishes and desserts. Other comfortable Redding hotels also have dedicated rooms for dogs. That includes the Red Lion Hotel Redding near the Sacramento River, the Fairfield Inn that’s just off Interstate 5, the Best Western Plus Hilltop Inn and the La Quinta Inn & Suites.

Once you’ve checked into your Redding basecamp, it’s time to explore. Most hotels are just a short drive from various hiking routes, and well-behaved dogs can join people on most local trails. The Westside Trails’ Kilkee Drive trailhead opens access to several routes that stay busy nearly all year. Mary Lake Park, also on the west side of town, is a 29-acre destination with trails that loop the lake and twist into tree-lined landscapes. The Blue Gravel Mine Trail travels through a southwest Redding canyon that once housed a gold mine.

Across town, Clover Creek Preserve occupies 128 acres laced with woodland and meadow paths. View beautiful display gardens along the Arboretum Loop Trail at the McConnell Arboretum & Botanical Gardens, north of the Sundial Bridge. It’s part of the wider Turtle Bay Exploration Park, which also includes a natural history museum and parkland near the Sheraton Redding Hotel.
