Were you and yours part of the epic Poodle Day festivities in Carmel last week? People and poodles gathered from all over, and it was great fun for a great cause: NorCal Poodle Rescue.
Notwithstanding the clichés about their spoiled and pampered existence, poodles are smart, sensitive, energetic and social dogs–and as such, can find lots of creative ways to get in trouble when their needs aren't met. Often they end up wandering the street in a state of filthy, matted neglect, or traumatized in a noisy shelter. Fortunately for poodles and poodle mixes in Northern California and Oregon, NorCal Poodle Rescue's extensive network of fosters, volunteers, and alert Good Samaritans is there to help them heal up and find new people to love them. Like poor little Ozzy, who back in 2016 was in an awful state when he crawled onto the doormat of a kind lady–but she got him to NCPR, where he got healing, a new lease on life, and a new person to love him. Or Whisper, terrified and shut down at the shelter, but blossoming, as his rescuer found she couldn't live without him.
Currently hoping for his own loving home is Phoenix, a sweet little 6-year-old guy who landed at NCPR with an old injury–some time in his past, he suffered a leg fracture that didn't heal quite right and left him with a bit of a limp. He gets around fine and is in no pain. He'll never be a marathon runner, but he's really hoping for a chance to show off his great skills as a lapdog. Perhaps on your lap? Get in touch!
