SPCA for Monterey County 2017

A vibrant dog park bathed in sunlight features abundant greenery with mature trees, offering ample shade for leisurely outdoor activities. In the distance is a well-equipped playground that presents an additional activity area. An inviting picnic table spreads out nearby, ideal for enjoying meals al fresco or taking relaxing breaks from play. A neatly-placed trash bin aids in maintaining the park's cleanliness for everyone's enjoyment. Dominating the scene is a generously wide dirt path gracefully curving through the expanse of grass, promising exploratory walks and lively fetch games.

The SPCA for Monterey County got the call: Three tiny puppies, about two weeks old, trapped under a classroom in Salinas. No mom in sight. Swooped to safety, the little ones quickly got the medical attention they needed and then went to a nurturing foster home. But meanwhile…

Five days earlier, on the same school campus, a small dog who was obviously nursing puppies somewhere was picked up and taken to another shelter. Which is where the good folks at the SPCA found her, and soon the little family was together again. They're thriving in their foster home, very happy to put their precarious existence behind them. And, as you read this, mom Ginger and puppies Gilligan, Mary Ann, and Skipper are looking for their forever homes—check the adoption page for details!

Coming up on May 6 is Wag n' Walk, SPCAMC's annual day of fun and exercise for dogs and their families. Locals and visitors alike can soak up the sights and sniffs as they wend their way along the 2.4 mile loop between Monterey's Custom House Plaza and Monterey Bay Aquarium. But that's just the beginning—once the walk's over, you and Sadie can check out the agility equipment, learn about training classes, join the costume contest, show off your coolest tricks, and more. The possibilities are endless, and all donations raised help pets like Gilligan, Mary Ann, Skipper, and Ginger!

It's fun, educational, and all for a great cause—making sure that when the next little foundling family turns up in the County, or some other critter is in dire straits and needs a helping hand, SPCA of Monterey County will be there.
