From October 27 to November 12, these culinary events present exciting opportunities for foodies, foragers and wine enthusiasts. Once you’ve sampled the region’s delicious treasures, watch ocean waves where Big River meets the sea or take in views from the Point Cabrillo Lighthouse grounds.
Pups and their people enjoy countless outdoor activities in Mendocino County. The incredible Big River Trail draws many DogTrekkers. Two decades ago, the Mendocino Land Trust transferred more than 7,300 acres to California State Parks. A Big River-adjacent haul road now doubles as a 10-mile trail between Big River Beach and Mendocino Woodlands State Park. The peaceful route is known for birdwatching and estuary views.
Perched on bluffs along the Pacific Ocean, the Point Cabrillo Light Station is a haven for hikers, history buffs and wintertime whale watchers. Engaging museum exhibits explore the facility’s evolution, and dogs are welcome on trails that surround the California State Historic Park.
Many small, family-owned producers operate across Mendocino County’s 12 wine-growing regions, and nearly all welcome pups in picnic areas, tasting rooms or both. Most are clustered along the Highway 101 corridor between Hopland and Ukiah, or in the Yorkville Highlands/Anderson Valley areas along Highway 128.
