Big River State Beach

Big River State Beach is located on the south side of Mendocino, about 2 miles north of Little River. The west side of the beach is dog-friendly. Access the beach by vehicle from Highway 1, or by trails down the bluffs.

Big River State Beach is ideal for various activities such as sunbathing, strolling along the sand, and kayaking in the calm waters of the nearby Big River Estuary. Dogs are welcome on the west side of the beach as is the paved path as long as they are on leashes up to six feet long. The beach is accessible by a stairway descending from the cliffs or directly from Highway One via Big River Road, which offers ample parking and restroom facilities.

There are restrooms across the way restrooms and plenty of driftwood available for a game of fetch. The adjacent Big River trail invites longer walks through the scenic estuary, where you might spot local wildlife like seals and otters. With its friendly policies for pets and a landscape that changes with the tide, Big River Beach is an inviting spot for both relaxation and adventure, making it a favorite for locals and visitors alike.
