Half Moon Bay, 25 miles south of San Francisco, welcomes four-legged travelers with open paws. Gentle ocean breezes, sand under paws and tide pools create the ideal backdrop for dog walks along California’s Coastside.

Beach time is a highlight. Francis Beach allows off-leash fun at low tide; your pup can splash through shallow surf or race along the shoreline. Head north to Montara Dog Beach, where trails lead to hidden coves and tide pools perfect for sniffing and splashing.

If forest trails are more your style, explore the Half Moon Bay Coastal Trail. This flat, dog-friendly path spans five miles of coastal bluffs and wildflower meadows. Drive inland to Purisima Creek Redwoods Preserve, where firs and ferns offer a cool escape from sea spray.

When hunger calls, choose from dog-friendly cafés like Half Moon Bay Brewing Company, where outdoor tables come with water bowls and friendly staff. Several inns and vacation rentals welcome pups with beds and nearby walks, so your dog feels at home.

Remember to pack waste bags, check local leash regulations, and bring fresh water. With thoughtful planning, a weekend in Half Moon Bay becomes a highlight reel of wagging tails, walks, belly rubs and seaside joy.
