Little River Inn is perfectly positioned between Mendocino’s breathtaking redwoods and the wildly beautiful Pacific coast. Set 12 miles south of Fort Bragg, the secluded resort has gorgeous gardens to wander, porch seats overlooking the ocean, and a footpath that connects to Van Damme State Beach. From there, four-paw adventures extend along the waterfront and into the region’s pup-friendly parks.

Return guests never forget the awe they felt during their first stop at Little River Inn. Historic charm meets modern comfort across this 225-acre property that parallels iconic Highway 1. Built around an 1853 Victorian, the family-owned favorite has welcomed two- and four-legged guests for more than 80 years.

Greet the day with a game of fetch on the inn’s expansive front lawn. Then, take the short trail that crosses the road to Van Damme State Park. Dogs are allowed on the beachfront portion of this grand playground, and it’s a fun place to dip into the waves. Leashed pups can also walk the paved roads running between campground sites.

Drive about five minutes north from Little River Inn to reach Big River State Beach. The west side of the beach is popular for on-leash adventures, while the nearby multi-use Big River Trail extends along a 10-mile haul road with wildlife-watching opportunities and views of the Big River estuary. Leashed pups can also play on the beaches and trails of MacKerricher State Park or explore 50 acres of flowers at the Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens
