From alpine meadows to starry desert skies, glamping in California’s mountains and deserts is a dream for adventurous pet parents. Enjoy epic scenery at glamping getaways that offer incredible access to hiking, stargazing, and photo ops.

(intended paragraph break) Depending on the season, cool mornings and warm afternoons offer perfect hiking weather, while pet-friendly amenities make relaxing a breeze. Bring paw booties for desert heat and a cozy jacket for cooler elevations.

DogTrekker’s favorite peaks and desert retreats include:

Wildhaven Yosemite, Mariposa, Yosemite Mariposa County

Why we love it: Wildhaven Yosemite offers roomy safari-style tents on the edge of Mariposa, with views, privacy, and access to dog-friendly trails. You and your dog will love the open space, shaded decks, and relaxing after a day exploring Yosemite’s foothills.

Dog policy: Up to two well-behaved dogs are welcome for a $30 fee and must be pre-booked.

Palm Canyon Hotel & RV Resort, Borrego Springs, Anza-Borrego Desert

Why we love it: Stay in Western-themed accommodations at the gateway to California’s largest state park, Anza-Borrego Desert State Park. Palm Canyon Hotel & RV Resort welcomes dogs in designated rooms and RV sites, offering amenities like swimming pools, hot tubs, and an on-site bar and grill.

It’s the perfect place to recharge and relax after a day exploring the badlands, catching the view at Font’s Point, and wandering among giant metal sculptures on the edge of town. In spring, the area is prime wildflower viewing territory.

Dog policy: First-floor King Premium rooms are pet-friendly (100lbs max) for a $50 per stay fee.

AutoCamp Joshua Tree, Greater Palm Springs

Why we love it: AutoCamp Joshua Tree is a dreamy desert escape for travelers and their four-legged companions. Set just minutes from the national park entrance and approximately 20 minutes to Pioneertown, this stylish glamping spot offers spacious, dog-friendly air-conditioned Airstreams with cozy beds and personal patios—perfect for stargazing.

The desert landscape is ideal for scenic strolls, and dogs are welcome throughout much of the property. With modern comforts, community fire pits, and trails nearby, it’s a paws-itively perfect base for a pet-friendly adventure.

Dog policy: Up to two dogs (80 lbs max) are welcome for an additional fee of $75. Relief areas are provided around the camp.
