The seasonal schedule (May through October) means you’ll avoid the heaviest winter rains, though even in summer the redwood area stays cool and can be damp. Pack layers and prepare for the kind of forest environment where everything smells like soil and ancient trees. Your dog will either love the cool, shaded walks or find them a bit much depending on their heat tolerance.
