Mendocino Grove sits on 37 acres of coastal woodland just south of the village of Mendocino, with Big River Beach a short drive away. If you’ve wanted to camp but couldn’t face the thought of sleeping on the ground or dealing with a tent setup, this place makes sense.
The accommodations are safari-style tents—12 feet by 14 feet—built on wooden platforms so you’re not actually on the earth. Each one has a queen bed dressed with cotton linens and a down comforter, plus a couple of sling back chairs for sitting outside. You get the camping experience without the typical camping discomforts. There’s a fire pit either at your site or nearby if you want to sit around one in the evening.
The bathroom facilities are newly renovated, which matters more than you’d think when you’re staying in a tent. Hot showers and heated floors make a real difference, especially on cooler nights near the coast. The location is genuinely convenient—you’re only about a minute’s drive from the town of Mendocino itself, so if you want to grab dinner or explore the galleries and shops, it’s easy to get there and back. Big River Beach is also right there, good for a morning walk before coffee.
The property has that genuine quiet-woods feeling without being so remote that you’re cut off from anything. You’ll hear birds, see trees, feel like you’ve escaped, but you can still pop into town if you want. The whole setup works well if you’re traveling with a dog since you get outdoor space and easy access to beach and trail walking, but without the complications of a traditional campground. The wooden platforms mean your dog isn’t sleeping directly on damp ground either.
