Bridalveil Creek Campground

Bridalveil Creek Campground

Glacier Point Rd., Yosemite National Park, California

(209) 372-0200

Bridalveil Creek Campground sits about 45 minutes south of Yosemite Valley at 7,200 feet elevation, offering a quieter alternative to the busier valley campgrounds while still keeping you deep in Yosemite National Park. The campground operates first-come, first-served, so there’s no need to reserve months ahead—just show up and claim your spot if you can.

Each site has a fire ring and picnic table, which means you can cook over the fire or set up a camp stove while your dog rests nearby. Food storage lockers are essential here since bears are active in the area, and the campground takes wildlife safety seriously. You’ll find potable water and flush toilets spread throughout, which makes managing basic camp needs straightforward. If you want to shower or do laundry, there’s a facility just a short distance away.

The real draw for dog owners is the access to trails in the surrounding area. Bridalveil Creek itself runs through the campground, and you can take leashed dogs on numerous paths nearby. The scenery is genuinely stunning—granite cliffs, meadows, and forest—without the crowds you’d encounter closer to Valley Village and El Capitan. Morning hikes tend to be quieter than afternoon ones, which makes for a more relaxed experience with your dog.

The elevation means it can be cool even in summer, so bring layers. Spring and early summer bring wildflowers, though the creek runs higher then. Fall offers some of the clearest days and fewer mosquitoes. Winter access depends on snow conditions, and the campground may close seasonally.

Since this is a national park campground, dogs must stay leashed at all times outside your campsite, and you’re responsible for cleaning up after them. The first-come, first-served setup means you might not get your preferred spot, but that spontaneity is part of the appeal. Just arrive early in the day if you’re visiting during peak season. Bring plenty of water for your dog—the elevation and sun exposure are real factors, especially on trail days.
