Desert Christ Park is one of the most unique attractions in the California high desert — a hilltop sculpture garden featuring more than 40 towering white concrete statues depicting scenes from the life of Christ, including a breathtaking Last Supper tableau. Created by sculptor Antone Martin beginning in 1951, the park sits on a scenic overlook with panoramic views of the Morongo Basin and the surrounding desert mountains. The sculptures range from 3 to 16 feet tall and are spread across a peaceful, open-air setting that invites quiet contemplation and leisurely strolling.

Located just outside Yucca Valley, the park offers something you won’t find anywhere else in Southern California. The sculptures emerge from the high desert landscape with an almost surreal presence, and visiting with your dog means you both get to experience the quiet, spiritual atmosphere at your own pace. The white concrete figures stand against the blue sky and desert backdrop in a way that’s genuinely striking, whether you’re exploring in early morning light or during the golden hour before sunset.

Leashed dogs are welcome to explore the park alongside their owners. The paved and packed-dirt pathways are easy to navigate, and the open desert breeze and sweeping vistas make it a refreshing stop — especially during the cooler morning and late afternoon hours. Your dog will appreciate the space to walk without feeling crowded, and the terrain is gentle enough that even older dogs handle it well. There’s plenty of shade from the desert sky’s openness itself, though you might want to bring water since the high desert sun can be intense even in moderate temperatures.

Free admission and open daily from 7 AM to 6 PM, Desert Christ Park is genuinely unlike anywhere else you’ll visit. Plan for 45 minutes to an hour to walk the grounds and take in the sculptures properly. The best light for photographs comes in the late afternoon when the sun hits the white statues and casts longer shadows across the packed earth.
