Doran Beach sprawls across a wide, open meadow where your dog can actually see what’s coming—no cramped corners or blind spots. The grass stays reasonably short, and the whole setup feels less like a typical urban dog park and more like turning your dog loose on someone’s very well-maintained ranch. On clear days, you get views toward Bodega Head, and the wind keeps things cool even when the sun’s strong.

Dogs have full run of the fenced acreage, with a separate smaller enclosure for dogs under 25 pounds who prefer lower-energy play or who get overwhelmed by bigger dogs tearing around. Both areas are fully fenced, so you don’t need to worry about a recall fail sending your dog toward the highway. Water bowls are usually available, though bringing your own is smart—the park can get busy on weekends. There’s no entrance fee to use the dog area itself, since it’s part of Doran Regional Park.

The site sits right at the southern end of Doran Beach Road, about five miles south of downtown Bodega Bay. The parking lot can fill up on nice weekends, especially in summer, so an early morning or weekday visit gives you more elbow room and shorter leash-up lines. From the lot it’s a short walk to the fenced dog area. The park’s overall hours run sunrise to sunset, but arrive by midday at the latest if you’re coming on a weekend. Terrain is mostly flat, open grass with some packed dirt in high-traffic zones. Shade is sparse—mostly just the tree line at the park’s edges—so a midday summer visit means your dog will be in sun most of the time.
