Eastwood Sno-Park sits on the east side of Highway 168 at Huntington Lake Road, nestled within Sierra National Forest and offering access to some serious winter terrain. This is one of several Sno-Parks maintained by the Sierra Nevada region, and you’ll spot them by their distinctive brown highway signs as you drive.
The park serves as a gateway to 209 miles of groomed trails in the area, which is substantial for a day trip or weekend getaway. The landscape transforms completely depending on when you visit—early season might mean thin coverage, while midwinter typically offers reliable snow conditions that open up the full range of activities. Cross-country skiing is the main draw here, but dog sledding opportunities exist too, and even without sleds, dogs love the open snow play. Just know that what’s accessible varies greatly depending on current conditions, so you’re not guaranteed the same experience twice.
The basics are solid: snow-cleared parking lots and sanitation facilities mean you’re not roughing it completely. Each vehicle needs a parking permit, which costs $15 per day or $40 for a full season pass. The park operates seasonally from November 1 through May 30, though that window can shift based on actual snow arrival.
Getting here requires timing—you need decent road conditions to reach Highway 168, and weather can change quickly once you’re up there. The elevation works in your favor for consistent snow, but it also means planning ahead and checking conditions before driving out. Bring extra water for your dog since snow doesn’t adequately hydrate them, and watch paw pads carefully in winter conditions. The remote location means you won’t find food or fuel nearby, so pack what you need before heading up.
