The Heritage House Resort embraces decades of families and friends creating memories on the cliffs of this Northern California property. Set into Mendocino’s rugged Pacific coastline, the guest rooms, suites and private houses manage to soothe and inspire in the very same breath. Your dog gets the same treatment—the resort welcomes them with thoughtful comforts that include a pet bowl, toys, treats, a blanket and towels. A portion of the pet fee goes to the Mendocino Coast Humane Society, so you’re supporting the community while you’re there.
The unspoiled 37-acre sanctuary stretches across dramatic cliffs overlooking the ocean, and the oceanfront trails, gardens and forest paths are perfect for walking or hiking with your dog. You’ll wake up to uninterrupted views of the Pacific Ocean and the Mendocino coastline from the casual yet sophisticated 5200 Restaurant, where buffet-style breakfast is served daily from 8:00-10:30am. Even if you’re not much of a breakfast person, sitting down with coffee while your dog settles nearby is worth the experience.
What makes this place work well for dogs is the honesty about what they expect. There are no size or breed restrictions, and you can bring up to two dogs. But they do ask that you don’t leave your dog unattended at any time—no running out for errands and leaving them in the room. That rule exists because this is genuinely a dog-friendly property, not one that’s merely tolerant. You’ll see other guests walking their dogs along the cliffs, and it feels like a place where dogs belong.
The nonrefundable pet deposit is $75 per stay. If you’re coming in winter when the cliffs get moody and dramatic, or spring when wildflowers bloom along the trails, ask about the pet package when you call—there may be additional options depending on your dog’s needs and the season you’re visiting.
