Kellogg Beach

Kellogg Beach

Kellogg Beach

Kellogg Rd., Crescent City, California 95531

Kellogg Beach sits north of Crescent City along the Del Norte County coastline, and it’s one of those rare spots where you can actually drive your car right onto the sand with your dog. The beach has a remote, quiet feel that makes it special—you won’t find crowds here, even on weekends. The access is straightforward: head north from Crescent City and you can drive directly onto the beach itself (four-wheel drive is recommended, especially if conditions are wet). There’s a parking area right there on the sand, so you’re not hauling your dog across dunes or dealing with a long walk from a distant lot.

Dogs need to stay leashed, which is easy to manage on a beach this mellow. The shoreline stretches out with good walking distance in both directions, and you’ll see the raw northern California coastline—rocky outcrops, dramatic cliffs, and that constant ocean presence. The waves here can be powerful, so this isn’t a place where you’d want your dog swimming, but the sandy beach itself is pleasant for walking and exploring. The atmosphere is genuinely peaceful. You might see a handful of other people, but nothing like the populated beaches down south.

The main thing to know is that this is a working beach in a remote area. It’s not developed or manicured. There are no facilities—no restrooms, no trash cans, no water fountains. You’ll want to bring water for your dog and clean up after them yourself. The beach conditions can shift with weather and tide, so checking conditions before you go makes sense, especially if you’re driving in from a distance. But if you’re looking for a quiet coastal walk with your dog away from the typical beach scene, Kellogg delivers exactly that. The drive itself takes you through some beautiful redwood country once you get off Highway 101.
