Located off I-40 and historic Route 66 near Needles, Pirate Cove Resort & Marina sits along the Colorado River with a distinctly laid-back vibe—think Caribbean style beaches and actual sandy shores rather than the rocky banks you’d expect. The 2½ miles of riverfront spreads across several accommodation types, so whether you’re pulling in with a full RV setup, pitching a tent, or renting one of their two-story cabins, there’s a spot for you. All the campsites come with full hook-ups, and the facilities include proper restroom and shower buildings throughout the property.
The marina here is substantial—250 boat slips, a 7-lane launch ramp, and a 24/7 gas dock if you’re bringing your own vessel. If you didn’t bring one, they rent travel trailers and boats. The on-site restaurant and beach bar is handy when you don’t feel like cooking, and there’s a general store stocked with basics and gift items.
What really makes this spot worthwhile for a longer stay is the access to serious outdoor mileage. You’ve got 3,200 miles of BLM trails crisscrossing the area, perfect for taking your dog out beyond the river itself. If golf is your thing, eight courses are scattered within a 10 to 45-minute drive. The location itself is pretty strategic—you’re roughly 30 minutes from Lake Havasu, Arizona, 40 minutes from Laughlin, Nevada, and about 90 minutes from Las Vegas if you want a day trip.
Getting there is straightforward. From the junction of I-40 and US 95 South, head east 9½ miles to Exit 153 (Park Moabi Road), then north just a half mile. The Colorado River runs right through the property, so you and your dog can actually access the water rather than just looking at it from a distance.
