Pleasure Point Marina on Big Bear Lake gives you plenty of ways to get on the water with your dog. The marina rents out pontoon boats, kayaks, pedal boats, fishing boats, stand-up paddle boards, an eight-person SUP, and jet skis. If you’re bringing a dog, the pontoon and fishing boats work well since your dog has room to move around and won’t feel cramped. Kayaking and paddleboarding are doable too, though you’ll want a dog comfortable with water and balancing on a moving surface. Paddleboards especially require a dog who won’t panic or jump in unexpectedly.
The marina has a full service repair center on-site, so if you rent something and it gives you trouble, they can handle it pretty quickly. They sell gas, basic snacks, and fishing supplies if you need to grab anything before heading out. The setting is genuinely beautiful—Big Bear Lake is surrounded by pine forest, and the water is clear enough to see down several feet in spots. On the drive there, you’ll pass through the town of Big Bear Lake itself, which has a few dog-friendly spots if you want to grab breakfast or pick up supplies beforehand.
When you’re out on the water with your dog, bring plenty of fresh water since your dog will get thirsty in the sun and heat. The salt-like feeling of wind and sun exposure is real, and dogs can get dehydrated just as fast as people do. Clean up after your dog during the day—the marina and lake are used by everyone, and it only takes a moment to keep things nice. If your dog gets wet, bring a towel for the ride back. The water in Big Bear can be quite cold even in summer, so don’t be surprised if your dog seems tired after swimming.
