Rancheria Falls National Recreation Trail

Rancheria Falls National Recreation Trail

This popular, well maintained trail along Rancheria Creek has about 900 feet of elevation gain starting from the trial head at 7,200 feet. I's  about a mile each way, and the grade is very gentle. In late spring and early summer the falls are spectacular, tumbling 150 down a ravine in a 50-foot-wide gush.

Getting there: From Highway 168 toward Huntington lake, travel approximately one mile past the turnoff for China Peak Ski Resort and go right on Forest Service Road 8S31, also called Rancheria Falls Road. The trailhead is 1.2 miles down. Parking and restrooms are available at the trailhead. Pack in your own water; it is not safe to drink from the stream. Please keep your dog leashed or under reliable voice control.
