40616 Village Dr., Big Bear Lake, California 92315

(909) 878-0499

Tropicali was envisioned by creative director Michael Sterling Eaton and his wife, Sanoe Lake, a professional surfer and actress. Sanoe, a local Hawaiian, and Michael, a California native, seamlessly blend their diverse backgrounds to craft the uniquely natural California island-style fusion known as Tropicali. The restaurant embodies an island state of mind inspired by the beauty of California and their individual experiences, with an atmosphere that reflects the all-natural, laid-back essence of the Californian island lifestyle.

The menu centers on poke bowls prepared fresh daily, with options that let you customize your base, protein, and toppings. You’ll find traditional ahi tuna alongside inventive combinations that draw from both Hawaiian and California influences. The ingredients lean toward sustainable sourcing, which aligns with the founders’ philosophy about respecting both people and the environment. Beyond poke, they offer acai bowls, salads, and other light fare that feels right for the mountain setting.

The outdoor patio is where you’ll want to sit with your dog, especially on clear days when you can catch views toward the lake. It’s a relaxed space with a tropical feel—think natural wood, bright colors, and plants—without feeling pretentious. The vibe here matches what you’d expect from people who actually live the lifestyle they’re describing rather than just marketing it. Service moves at a casual pace, which is fine; you’re not in a rush anyway.

Big Bear’s downtown area has plenty of foot traffic and nearby shops, so you could easily combine a meal here with a walk around the neighborhood. The patio stays open year-round, though weather obviously affects how comfortable it is in winter. If you’re staying in Big Bear and want something fresher and less heavy than typical mountain lodge fare, this is a solid option for a mid-day break with your dog.
