Del Loma RV Park & Campground sits five miles west of Big Bar along Highway 299, right in the heart of Trinity National Forest with direct access to the Trinity River. The location gives you that genuine backcountry feel without being isolated—you’re close enough to Big Bar’s services but far enough out that you feel like you’ve actually gotten away.
The park itself spreads across spacious sites, some right along the riverfront where you can watch the water from your RV or tent. Dogs do well here because there’s room to move around, and the natural setting keeps everyone happy. The Trinity River running nearby means you can take your dog for a dip on hot days, though you’ll want to check current water conditions before jumping in. The landscape is typical of this region—mixed forest and granite outcroppings, with plenty of shade under pine and oak trees.
Fishing is legitimately good on this section of the Trinity. The river holds steelhead and salmon depending on the season, so if you fish, you won’t be wasting your time here. Rafting opportunities exist both nearby and within reasonable day-trip distance. The area also works well if you hunt during season or just want to explore the trails that branch off into the national forest. Your dog will have a genuine wilderness experience here rather than just a paved campground with manicured grass.
The park fills up during peak summer weekends and holidays, especially when the fishing is good, so showing up without a reservation in July or August is risky. Spring and fall tend to be less crowded and offer pleasant temperatures. The Trinity River can run high and cold during snowmelt, which matters if you’re planning water activities. Winters are mild but the elevation means occasional snow, so check conditions if you’re coming during that season.
