The MCCS Big Bear Recreation Facility is a military recreational lodging and campground operated by Marine Corps Air Station Miramar in the San Bernardino Mountains near Big Bear Lake. The setting gives you easy access to the lake itself—you can rent boats right there or take advantage of the marina for fishing.
The facility has eight cabins (including two ADA-compliant duplex units), five full-hookup RV sites with a dump station, and five tent camping spots. Inside the cabins and throughout the campground, dogs are welcome for an additional $25 per pet per night. You’ll need to bring vaccination records to check-in. The community amenities include a fire pit, a lodge with Wi-Fi, a playground, bicycles available to borrow, and fishing gear if you want to try your luck at the lake.
This place works particularly well for military families who want a straightforward mountain getaway with their dog without navigating civilian campground policies or worrying about whether dogs are actually accepted. The cabins mean you’re not dealing with tent setup if that’s not your style, and the full-hookup RV sites handle the usual complications of longer stays.
Access is limited to active duty and retired military personnel, reservists, National Guard members, veterans, and DoD employees with authorized family members. You’ll need a valid military ID at check-in. Cabin reservations open up to two months in advance, with check-in between 3:00 and 7:00 p.m. Campground check-in starts earlier at 1:00 p.m., which is helpful if you’re arriving during afternoon hours. The proximity to Big Bear Lake’s trails and the town itself makes this a solid home base if you’re planning to spend a few days in the area.
