Oak Knoll Lodge

949 Tulip Ln., Big Bear Lake, California 92315

(909) 866-2773

Oak Knoll Lodge sits on National Forest Land in Big Bear Lake, which means you’re waking up surrounded by pine trees and actual quiet—not the kind you get near a highway. The location is genuinely useful if you’re planning to hike or bike; you’ve got trails accessible right from the property, and it’s only a mile to downtown Big Bear’s shops and restaurants if you need a break from cabin life.

The lodge has 12 cabins spread across the property, each one decorated differently, so you’re not dealing with cookie-cutter rooms. Some have fireplaces, some have different layouts—it’s worth asking which cabin suits what you’re looking for when you book. The cabins are small and intimate, which works well if you’re traveling with a dog since you won’t feel like you’re imposing on other guests’ space.

What matters here is that the owners actually understand dogs stay with you. There aren’t a bunch of restrictions or hidden fees that pop up when you arrive. Your dog can be part of your stay without feeling like a problem to manage.

Snow Summit is about 5 miles away if you’re visiting during winter and want to check out the area, though obviously you’ll need to leave your dog behind for that activity. The real draw is the access to hiking and outdoor time—you can spend mornings on trails and afternoons at the cabin. Big Bear Lake itself is close by if your dog enjoys water. The setting is genuinely peaceful, not that forced “retreat” feeling some places try too hard to create. You’re just in the mountains with your dog, which is usually the whole point of staying somewhere like this.
