Olivet Kennel & Dog Training Resort in Santa Rosa has been around since 1990, making it the first dog resort in Sonoma County. It started with Sapir and Jane Weiss, who built the place on the idea that dogs deserve real attention and care. When Wendy and Drew Welling took over in November 2020, they kept that same commitment going—they weren’t interested in changing what was already working well.
The facility handles dogs of all sizes and temperaments, which matters if you’ve got a dog that’s particular about their environment or needs space to decompress. The accommodations are straightforward and clean, nothing fancy but well-maintained. What sets it apart is the actual playtime. There are indoor and outdoor areas where your dog gets supervised play and socialization with other dogs—not just kenneled all day. That kind of activity makes a real difference in how a dog handles being away from home, especially for longer stays.
Beyond boarding, they run training programs tailored to what your dog actually needs. Whether that’s basic obedience or working through specific behavioral issues, the trainers understand that every dog comes with different challenges and backgrounds. That personalized approach tends to work better than one-size-fits-all classes because the trainers can adjust based on how your dog responds rather than following a rigid script.
The staff there will talk through what your dog needs before you drop them off—they’re not just checking a box on intake paperwork. They ask the questions that matter: how your dog does with other dogs, whether they have any triggers, what their routine looks like at home. That information actually gets used, not filed away and forgotten.
If you’re planning to board your dog there, give them a call ahead of time to confirm their current policies and availability. They’re straightforward about answering questions and don’t make the process more complicated than it needs to be.
